What is the purpose of a Friends Group?
The most successful National Parks are supported by an active non-profit "Friends Group" and/or a dedicated "Cooperating Association" that work in partnership with the National Park Service to advance the mission of a specific park unit. Until January of 2008, Assateague Island National Seashore lacked a dedicated friends group or cooperating association with the sole purpose of encouraging the scientific, educational, interpretive, preservation, recreational, and management objectives of Assateague Island National Seashore. |
